About Me

Hi! I’m Nik (they/them) and I am a Queer & Non-Binary Artist, Photographer, and Lyra/Aerial Hoop Instructor & Performer.

When I was a kid and was asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I knew the answer immediately. I wanted to be an artist; though, I specifically said that I wanted to be a starving artist… so I must have known what I was getting myself into.

Art is my first and longest love. I started with drawing and very quickly became enamored with photography & digital art and the endless possibilities that combining the two provided.

In 2014, I found another life-long love in the circus world; more specifically, Pole and Aerial Hoop. It was there that I was introduced to some of the most incredible and inspirational human beings. I have always enjoyed photographing people, but circus folk were a whole new adventure unleashing a wealth of creativity. The circus community and the people who occupy it became such an important part of who I am that, in 2017, I started teaching Aerial Hoop and have performed professionally! Now I can say I have the most magical jobs!

I’d like to think of my life now as a pursuit of magic; I want nothing more than to make people and life feel magical. Art & Photography were the beginning, and the Circus Arts were just the thing I needed to fly.

What is Nikkita Nouveau?

The definition of nouveau is commonly “newly arrived or developed” or “new or different”.

‘Nikkita Nouveau’, to put it simply, is my freedom of artistic expression; the arrival of a new me. Being a photographer for 10+ years, I found that my creativity was constantly put to the side in order to remain “palatable”; to avoid being seen as “too much”. In 2020 I decided it was time to finally let myself be the artist I always wanted to be; weird, vibrant, and maybe not everyone’s cup of tea.

My goal with Nikkita Nouveau can be summarized perfectly by the following quote from the amazing photographer Jerry Uelsmann:

“Ultimately, my hope is to amaze myself. The anticipation of discovering new possibilities becomes my greatest joy.”
